Serena Williams’ childhood coach Rick Macci has put his weight behind Jannik Sinner to make a solid comeback on the tour. Earlier in the season, Sinner suffered a five-set loss against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Sinner also could not go deep in the Qatar Open, suffering a quarterfinal loss against Jakub Mensik. However, Macci is optimistic that Sinner will go on to win the title either at Indian Wells or at the Miami Open. The Italian has a solid game on hard court and he would look to deliver in the Sunshine doubles.
Macci wrote on his X handle, “Look for Sinner to grab one of the Sunshine doubles. The Red Rocket is ready for blast off and from adversity and defeat champions learn and come back tougher to beat. @janniksin.”
Sinner had shared his disappointment after his quarterfinal loss against Mensik and he is confident of bouncing back in style.
He said in the post-match press conference after the loss, “It’s a match that went how it went, now let’s see where we can improve. We’re serene, there’s no disaster. Obviously we are working to win as many matches as possible, these are moments that happen and I’m okay. I will dig myself out of this, I’m sure of it.”
The World No.2 is optimistic that he would reap rewards for the work he is putting in, if not at the Indian Wells or Miami Open, then maybe later in the season.
“Nothing bad happened, we’re serene. We’ll try to get the confidence back. It’s moments that can happen, every player went through it. I’m really calm, I’m sure the work will pay off, results will come. Maybe not at Indian Wells or Miami, but the work will pay off. It’s okay. It’s normal to go through difficult moments. I’ve had tougher ones in the past, I know how to come back.”
Indian Wells will kick off on March 4.
