Rafael Nadal believes women should earn more if they generate more profit. Nadal said men and women should be given more same number of opportunities at the top level.
Currently, men make more money on the tour as they generate more profit.
Nadal said in an interview with La Sexta, “For me, the investment for women should be the same as for men. The opportunities, the same.”
However, Nadal expressed reservations about equal salaries, asking, “The salaries, the same? No, for what? It’s not unfair; what’s unfair is that there isn’t equal opportunity.” He further explained that earnings should reflect the revenue and audience each player generates, adding, “I want equality, I want women to earn more than men if they generate more than men.”
Nadal also shed light on the broader discussion of income equality, saying, “What bothers me is when people tell me that income and earnings should be equal.”
In a more detailed statement, Nadal shared his perspective on Serena Williams, saying, “For me, equality isn’t about giving away gifts, but if Serena Williams earns more than me, I want her to earn more than me. I want equality. I want women to earn more than men if they generate more than men.”
Meanwhile, Nadal had a glorious career, winning a total of 22 Slams in his career.
On the other hand, Nadal also revealed his strategy while playing against his biggest rivals, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard had a 24-16 record against the Swiss whereas he had a 29-31 record against the Serbian.
“I think it had been a completely different approach to the matches,” the retired star said during his recent appearance on Andy Roddick’s Served podcast.
“I think against Novak, it was a little bit about, we can have a strategy, but at the end it’s about, I need to play very well. I need to play very well all the time. And we don’t play the same style, of course, but it’s not a clear strategy.
“Against Roger, I will damage him against his backhand. Against Novak, I don’t have that feeling. The feeling is I need to play very well for a long time and know that I have to adjust things.
