Carlos Alcaraz’s former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero said it would be crucial for the Spaniard to stay motivated in his career to become the best ever player in the history of the sport. Alcaraz, 22, has already won seven Slam titles in his glittering career so far.
The youngster got off to a dream start in the 2026 season, winning the first 16 games. His winning run was stopped by Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells semifinal and then he was stunned by Sebastian Korda in the Miami Open.
Ferrero said on MARCA: “Yes, of course. What he needs to do is keep his motivation intact.
“He needs to stay motivated when he’s achieving all the goals he’s set for himself, and then, when his motivation isn’t at 100%, professional discipline has to kick in.
“I think Carlos will stay motivated because he knows he has some very important players ahead of him, players who have achieved great success, and he wants to be one of them.
“I don’t see any reason to think his motivation will drop in the short term, and I hope he stays at this level for a long time because he’ll have opportunities to win major titles.”
On the other hand, Alcaraz has revealed that he has worked hard on his serve. The Spaniard is currently looking to defend his title in Monaco.
“If I have to single out one in particular, it’s my serve. I’ve already invested a lot of time in that aspect, not only on the court but also off it,” he explained while talking to Eurosport France.
“How to improve my movement, my throw, my technique, my feel. I’ve worked on it a lot; for me, it’s crucial to visualise it both on and off the court.”
Alcaraz will next take on Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the round of 16 of the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday.
