Former Argentina player Diego Schwartzman reckons it is going to be tough for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to win 20 Grand Slams each. Alcaraz and Sinner are at the top of their tennis prowess and it has become almost impossible for the rest of the players to stop them.
In the last two years, Alcaraz has won five Slams whereas Sinner has won four. Alcaraz recently won his maiden Australian Open title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final, becoming the youngest to complete a Career Grand Slam whereas Sinner lost in the semifinal against Djokovic.
Overall, Alcaraz has won seven Majors in his young career whereas Sinner has won four Slams.
“I mean, these guys, Alcaraz and Sinner have a different level of tennis, so I think if they have a good day, nobody can beat them so far,” said the former world number eight, Diego Schwartzman said in an interview with Tennishead.
The Argentine recalled the 2022 Rio Final, where he suffered a crushing loss against Carlos Alcaraz.
“I played one time against Alcaraz. The Rio Open (2022) final, and I lost the final against him, and it was a huge match for him because it was his first big title. But he beat me easily. It was 6-4, 6-2, easy match.
“His power was on a different level than my power at that moment. And then I played a few times against Sinner.
“And it was the same feeling, I was trying, at the end of my career, but the power of these two guys is a different thing. So it was very difficult for me.”
Asked if Alcaraz and Sinner would be able to repeat what Big Three – Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, achieved, Schwartzman said, “So do I think they can win 20 grand slams? I don’t know. Let’s see in the future. I don’t know if they can win 20 grand slams.
“It’s going to be tough,” he added. “I think they’re going to split too many different slams in the next few years.”
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has qualified for the semifinal of the Qatar Open, whereas Sinner suffered a quarterfinal loss against Jakub Mensik.
