Former Tennis player David Nalbandian reckons Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will need to prove their longevity if they are to catch Novak Djokovic’s tally of 24 Slams. The Serbian is the most successful player in the history of the sport, with 24 Majors in his glittering cabinet.
On the other hand, Alcaraz and Sinner have won seven and four Slams respectively in their young impressive careers. There is no doubt that Alcaraz and Sinner are way ahead of the other players on the tour and have delivered constantly in the last two years.
While Alcaraz has won the last five Slams, Sinner has won four Slams as none of the other players have been able to challenge the duo.
Nalbandian said on ESPN Tennis, “Emulate the Big 3? They have to keep it up for 10 or 15 years, no more and no less,” said the former world number three.
“They have the potential today. The issue afterward is sustaining it over time, the motivations, the injuries, the new generations.
The former Argentine player highlighted that some other young players will challenge Sinner and Alcaraz in the upcoming future.
“Today they’re above the rest but if in three or four years another one like them appears, they start sharing the titles. The numbers these three monsters put up are off the charts.”
While Alcaraz has opted out of the Madrid Open due to a right-hand wrist injury, Sinner will look to strengthen his lead at the top of the PIF ATP rankings. If the Italian wins the upcoming tournament, he will become the first player in series history (since 1990) to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles.
