The Hockey India has announced a nine-day Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp from April 1 to 9, marking the start of preparations for a crucial international calendar for the India women’s national field hockey team.
The camp comes on the heels of an impressive silver-medal finish at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers held in Hyderabad, where India also secured qualification for the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026.
Under the guidance of head coach Sjoerd Marijne, the focus during the camp will be on refining team combinations, boosting fitness levels, and sharpening tactical structures. With a demanding schedule ahead—including the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2026 in June, followed by the World Cup in August and the 2026 Asian Games from September 19 to October 4—the camp is seen as a vital building block.
The goalkeeping group will be led by experienced custodian Savita, alongside Madhuri Kindo, Bansari Solanki, and Bichu Devi Kharibam, who was recently honoured as Goalkeeper of the Year.
In defence, seasoned players like Nikki Pradhan and Udita will anchor the backline, supported by emerging names such as Ishika Chaudhary, Jyoti Singh, and Shilpi Dabas.
Midfield responsibilities will be led by captain Salima Tete, joined by experienced campaigners like Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam and Manisha Chauhan. Promising talents such as Sakshi Rana—recently named Upcoming Player of the Year—along with Sunelita Toppo and Ishika, add depth to the squad.
The forward line boasts a strong mix of experience and youth, headlined by Navneet Kaur, the reigning Player of the Year (Women). She will be supported by attacking options including Lalremsiami, Mumtaz Khan, Deepika, and Beauty Dungdung, among others, while Sangita Kumari continues her rehabilitation.
Speaking about the preparations, Marijne emphasized the importance of the camp in shaping a competitive unit. He noted that the focus would be on consistency, structural improvement, and mental readiness as the team aims to perform under pressure in major tournaments.
With a packed season ahead and key global events on the horizon, this camp represents a critical step in India’s journey to establish itself among the top contenders in women’s hockey.
