The City of Joy is about to get some ‘Real Joy’!! – UPB Season 3, Edition 2

UPB Season 3, Edition 2 – Kolkata is going to witness its first Vegas-style Boxing. It can’t wait and the excitement is palpable!

UPB Fight Club Season 3 continues with its 2nd Edition in the ‘City of Joy’ Kolkata with its first-ever Vegas-style Boxing Night. There is palpable excitement in the air as the anticipation levels are reaching the sky. The Sports-Loving city is looking forward to this kind of a Sporting action with bated breath and the atmosphere promises to be electric.

The main fight of 6 Rounds in the Welterweight division is the first Indo-Africa contest being showcased on the UPB platform and it is a clash between a quest for Legacy and a search for Redemption. Harry Simon Jr is the son of the legendary African Boxer Harry Simon (31-0-0), the former two-weight WBO World Champion and one of the only ten Male World Champions who finished their Careers with a ‘Perfect Record’ that is with no Losses or Draws. Harry Simon Jr claims that he has what it takes to beat his Father’s record and create a Legacy of his own and he’s already more than half-way there. Now what can stand- up against such desire for history making, is the will power of one who is determined to redeem himself from his past failures. This time it’s going to be different, which is what Vishwas has been claiming and some of his supporters concur, because in his last Fight against Rahul Singh, he demonstrated superior courage and skills. The Records may show that it could be an easy one for Harry however sometimes, when one comes up against a Man’s improved skill and superior will, it may not just be a walk-in-the-park on business day for even the best of the prospects in the boxing world. A true highlight Fight of the evening.

The Co-Main Fight, in the Featherweight division, between Pawan Kumar, the Challenger and Satnam Singh, the former WBC India Featherweight Champion, is a revenge Fight for Pawan, as he’s very keen on it. Satnam had beaten Pawan in early 2022, on his way to the WBC India Belt and Pawan always held that Loss personally as he felt that he had fought much better than what the Result showed and is now, determined more than ever to upend the Scores. Satnam on the other hand, is coming back from two successive Losses in the last Season and is hell-bent to prove that his Belt win was no flash in the pan. Pawan has one of the hardest chins on the circuit and Satnam’s skills have to be executed at their highest levels in order to not only break-through Pawan’s guard but also break-down his spirit. This Fight will be a tough one to Call given the history and the pride at stake for both.

The Super Bantamweight Fight between Adil Rajesh and Keisham Raju is going to be as much a battle of technique as much as of wits as both the Boxers are quick-footed. Adil is coming from two successive Wins after not-so-good results in his previous four Bouts whilst Keisham Raju’s two successive Knockout (KO) victories were blemished by two successive Losses. Adil has a bull-dog mentality and never gives up whereas Keisham with his brute-strength approach will not let Adil get an upper hand. All-in-all, a very measured and chess-like Fight in the offing, which would provide audiences with a different perspective of the Sport of Boxing.

The first Female Bout for UPB is a special one where Mamta (2-0-0) would go up against Poonam (1-0-0). Mamta is a Fighter who likes to charge at her opponents whilst Poonam is skilled enough to take the Fight to the ropes and has good defensive skills. She prefers technique over power, unlike Mamta, which would make this Bout a very contrasting show, in terms of style and approach, from both the Boxers.

The curtain raiser for the evening is going to be the Bantamweight showdown between two prospects, who are Anshu and Pawan. Anshu has been longing to get back in the Ring after his Debut win by a Technical Knockout (TKO) whereas Pawan Arya is upbeat and confident after his straight win in the last UPB Fight Club edition in May. Pawan Arya is a gifted Boxer and is considered a serious prospect in this Division whereas Anshu would not want to take a Loss at his hometown. So, it will be Pride vs Presence of Mind on display in this Fight.
