Norway’s talismanic forward Erling Haaland admitted that they will be the underdog in the World Cup quaterfinal clash against England and the whole pressure will be on Three Lions.
Haaland has been in prime form as he has scored seven goals in four matches of the tournament. Norway has qualified for the quarterfinal of the World Cup for the first time in history.
“Really low, still,” Haaland said, when asked to rate Norway’s chances of a historic trophy win.
“I think there’s some clear favourites out there, England’s one of them. I think all of you [reporters] should put every single pressure on the English lads,” he said with a chuckle.
The Manchester City player, who was born in Leeds, added: “It’s a special game, definitely. I think for me it’s super special, because I play in England and I was born in England, and you also play against teammates and everything.
“It’s a funny game and it’s going to be nice.”
The Manchester City striker said the pressure is on England and they will be the favorites in the quarterfinal.
“They should be confident of progressing definitely, it’s England.”
When asked if all of the pressure is on the Three Lions, he responded with a concise: “Yeah, definitely.”
In the round of 16, Norway had stunned five-time champions Brazil by 2-1 with Haaland scoring a brace.
“Playing against Brazil was kind of crazy for us Norwegians. And to win against Brazil, and then go and play England in the quarterfinals in the World Cup, in the USA is quite special,” Haaland said on Thursday.
“And think if you watch the scenes back in Norway, this is not normal for Norway to be, so it’s super special.”
Norway will need to bring their A-game against England.
