Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC have strengthened their squad by signing Spanish midfielder Antonio Moyano on a one-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday.
Moyano becomes the Highlanders’ second foreign signing ahead of the new season as head coach Juan Pedro Benali continues reshaping the squad following the departure of midfielder Andy Rodriguez after the 2025-26 campaign. The 26-year-old is expected to fill the void left by Rodriguez as NorthEast United prepare for the upcoming ISL season.
The Spanish midfielder began his professional journey with CA Osasuna, making his first-team debut in 2019. He has since featured for several clubs in Spain’s lower divisions, including AD Alcorcón, CE Sabadell and CF Fuenlabrada, before moving to India.
Moyano joins NorthEast United after an impressive spell with Diamond Harbour FC, where he played a key role in the club’s Indian Football League (IFL) triumph. During the title-winning campaign, he scored five goals and also provided assists in 12 appearances, underlining his influence in midfield.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Moyano said he had been following Indian football closely and was eager to represent the Guwahati-based club.
“I have followed Indian football closely over the past year, and NorthEast United is a club with real ambition and a fanbase that lives every match with the team,” he said.
“I have always tried to be a player who runs for the badge, who is there for his teammates in every phase of the game, and I want to bring that same commitment to the Highlanders.”
Head coach Juan Pedro Benali welcomed the signing, highlighting Moyano’s consistency and work rate as key qualities that convinced the club to bring him in.
“I have watched him closely this past season, and what stands out is his consistency; he gives you the same level in the 90th minute as he does in the first. He will add real balance to our midfield, and I am confident he will settle quickly into our way of playing,” Benali said.
With Moyano’s arrival, NorthEast United continue to reinforce their squad as they aim to build a competitive side for the forthcoming ISL campaign, banking on the Spaniard’s experience and midfield stability to play a significant role in the club’s ambitions.
