Celtic remain in the race to sign Slovan Liberec attacking midfielder Ermin Mahmic, who is reportedly in talks over a move abroad.
The 21-year-old was left out of Liberec’s squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Czech champions Slavia Prague. According to Czech outlet *infotbal*, his absence was linked to negotiations over a possible transfer.
Celtic are believed to be one of several clubs interested in Mahmic, who has reportedly been valued at around £7 million. No agreement has been confirmed, and the Scottish champions could face strong competition for his signature.
Liberec manager Branislav Fodrek admitted that Mahmic’s future remains uncertain and said the club is preparing for every possibility.
“We have an alternative with and without him, but the situation can change at any moment,” Fodrek said. “He is training with the team, but it is hard to say how it will end up.”
Mahmic joined Liberec from Austrian club SV Lafnitz in 2025 and enjoyed an impressive first season in the Czech Republic. He scored seven goals and provided three assists in 28 league appearances.
His reputation grew further during the 2026 World Cup. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international scored against Switzerland and also found the net in a 3-1 victory over Qatar.
Bosnian journalist and Celtic supporter Ika Ferrer Gotić recently increased speculation about the deal.
When asked on social media whether Mahmic could move to Celtic, she replied: “Shhh, we are close, don’t jinx it!” However, her message should not be viewed as confirmation that a transfer is close.
Celtic have already spent more than £30 million on Camilo Durán, Kasper Høgh, Haissem Hassan and Mika Baur as they rebuild their squad.
Arne Engels has completed a reported £22 million move to West Ham, while Daizen Maeda has also left.
Mahmic’s age, attacking ability and World Cup experience make him an appealing target. Celtic are still involved in discussions, but they will need to act quickly and beat interest from other clubs to complete the transfer.
