Bengaluru FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season by signing experienced Spanish midfielder Borja Martinez from third-tier Spanish club AD Alcorcon. The club also confirmed that defender Harsh Palande has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 season.
Martinez, 32, arrives with an extensive footballing background built across several Spanish clubs. During his career, he has represented Hercules CF, RCD Espanyol, Elche CF, Cultural Leonesa and AD Alcorcon. He also spent time in Atletico Madrid’s youth setup, adding to his experience in Spanish football.
Known for his versatility, Martinez is capable of playing in multiple attacking roles. While primarily a midfielder, he can also operate on either flank and provide support behind the main striker as a second forward. His ability to adapt to different positions is expected to add depth and flexibility to Bengaluru FC’s squad for the upcoming campaign.
Head Coach Pep Muñoz welcomed the signing, highlighting the club’s long-standing interest in the Spaniard.
“Borja is a creative player whom we’ve been tracking for the last couple of months. His style of play is suited for the brand of football we play here at the club, and his arrival will be a solid upgrade to our team for the coming season,” Muñoz said.
Martinez expressed his excitement about beginning a new chapter in India and said he is eager to experience football in Bengaluru.
“I’ve heard a lot about the club from fellow Spaniards who have played in Spain, and I cannot wait to come and experience Bengaluru and play in front of the best fans in the country at the Fortress,” he said.
Alongside the new signing, Bengaluru FC also secured the future of defender Harsh Palande by extending his contract until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season. The extension reflects the club’s commitment to retaining key members of its squad as preparations continue for the new season.
Reacting to the extension, Palande said, “Being at BFC has always been my priority, and I cannot wait to get back and meet all my teammates and get the work started for the season.”
With the arrival of Martinez and the retention of Palande, Bengaluru FC have continued to shape their squad as they gear up for the 2026-27 ISL season.
