Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer reckons Mumbai Indians will make massive changes to their squad after the ongoing IPL 2026. The five-time champions have struggled to get going in the ongoing season as they have failed to deliver with both bat and ball.
MI have managed only two wins in nine games and they are reeling in ninth position in the points table, and thus their playoff hopes are hanging by a thin thread. Hardik Pandya’s team suffered an eight-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Saturday.
“I think Mumbai will have to take some tough calls for the team formation. For now, they should at least aim to finish at a respectable position on the table. You do not think about all these things while the tournament is on. Once it is done, I am sure they will get together and think. They are such a franchise that will not sit quietly. They will make some changes, and they must as well. It is a big franchise, and if the performance is not coming, they will try to make things right,” Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
The former flamboyant batter believes the five-time champions will also ponder on their captaincy as Hardik Pandya hasn’t been able to lead from the front.
“I feel the captaincy issue will be discussed as well. Hardik has been captain for three years now. The result has not come and his own performance has not been there either. So the management will definitely think as this is franchise cricket after all. You do not put a lot of emotions here and think about results,” he said.
Mumbai Indians will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Monday.
