The 2024 T20 World Cup champions India will lock horns against runners-up South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday. Both of these teams have ticked the right boxes in the tournament and they would look to carry the good show in the Super 8 stage.
India were not too clinical against the Netherlands as they claimed a 17-run win in their last group stage match. Furthermore, the hosts had found themselves on the ropes at 77-6 against the USA in their opener.
Abhishek Sharma’s form is certainly a concern for the team as the opener has bagged three consecutive ducks. Tilak Varma has also failed to convert his starts into substantial scores.
Moreover, India’s catching has been their Achilles Heel in the tournament so far and they must hang on to their catches in big games.
On the other hand, South Africa recently suffered a 3-1 T20I series loss against India in 2025 but the Proteas have come up with a collective effort in the ongoing T20I showpiece. Barring the match against Afghanistan, Aiden Markram’s team won all of their matches comprehensively.
Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton have scored runs consistently whereas Lungi Ngidi has scalped eight wickets in three games.
