Former Indian batter Rohan Gavaskar has urged Lucknow Super Giants to stay patient with Mayank Yadav after the fast bowler had a poor outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Thursday.
Yadav conceded 50 runs in four overs he bowled against RCB and also went wicketless. The fast bowler was able to trouble the RCB skipper Rajat Patidar with short-pitch deliveries for a short while but the right-hander took an aggressive approach against the seamer and took him to the cleaners.
Gavaskar said Rishabh Pant got his selection of bowlers right against RCB after the hosts registered a nine-run win.
“In my opinion, they got the sequencing right. You cannot give the 18th over to Digvesh Rathi, so you had to go for Prince Yadav there. They wanted there to be 18,20, or 22 runs to defend in the final over. 1-2 bowlers will get hit in every match, and this was a high-scoring match, so someone had to go for runs. It had to happen. Mayank Yadav is making a comeback as well, so I will be a little patient with him,” Rohan Gavaskar said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, former Indian spinner Murali Kartik reckons LSG can the party spoilers for other teams at the fag end of the league stage.
“We were saying that they could be banana skins; they might not do much themselves, but they could spoil the party of others. You are also playing for your reputation. The powerplay set the tone for LSG, the rest of the game might be equal, but the way the powerplay went, RCB were in a lot of pressure after that. LSG were always ahead, they did not allow RCB to get into the contest,” Murali Kartik said.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Sunday.
