Munprit Juneja backs Jasprit Bumrah’s workload, compares him with Roger Federer

Former India and Gujarat cricketer Munprit Juneja has put his weight behind Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management. After suffering a serious back injury, special importance has been paid to Bumrah’s workload. Bumrah played only three out of the five Test matches against England and picked 14 wickets at an average of 26.

Meanwhile, Bumrah was part of the Asia Cup’s triumph but he was rested against Oman and Sri Lanka in dead rubber matches. Bumrah has been picked for the five-match T20I series against Australia but he has been rested for the ODI series.

“Like I said, he is strong mentally. Whenever he is down, he always wants to comeback stronger,” Juneja said as quoted by News18.

“That’s how he was when he started and that’s how he is now,” he said.

“For me, he is like what Roger Federer was to tennis after he turned 30. He showed he can win titles at 36,” Juneja stated.

The former cricketer added that it is not easy for a pacer to play all three formats after turning 32.

“And people forget it is not easy for a fast bowler to play all three formats at 32,” Juneja broke it down.

Juneja added it is imperative for Bumrah to manage his workload to prolong his career at the top level.

“If you got to play long, you have to be smart and understand your body. When someone does it, I don’t understand what the problem is?”

“He is a polished and a matured individual, who will always put the team forward,” Juneja said alluding to Bumrah’s team spirit.

Bumrah took three wickets (3-42) in the first innings of the opening Test match against the West Indies at Ahmedabad.

The ace pacer will be seen in action in the second Test, which will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi from Friday.
