Former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma showered praise on Bhuvneshwar Kumar after Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a comprehensive nine-wicket win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Monday.
Kumar returned with unbelievable figures of 3-5 in three overs he bowled to play a key role in bundling out the opposition at 75. The veteran pacer clean bowled debutant Sahil Parakh with an inswinging yorker in the first over of the innings. The swing bowler from Uttar Pradesh also accounted for in-form Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was roped in by RCB for INR 10.75 crore in the previous mega auction and Mohit said the pacer is worth double his current price.
“Their batting has been good since the beginning, their problem was that they used to score 225, but were unable to stop the opposition from chasing it. With the previous bowling attack, even 220-230 was getting chased down. The good thing that they did in the auction is that they went with experience. In this format, you need experience in bowling,” Mohit Sharma said on Cricbuzz.
“They went after Bhuvi, till the very end. Others might have felt that Bhuvi was not worth that much, so they stopped bidding. I am still saying Bhuvi’s worth is double his current price tag. In terms of his execution and skillset, he demonstrated that last year. After that, RCB went for Hazlewood, and his experience has come in handy here. You can see what they are doing together,” he added.
On the other hand, DC were left reeling at 13-6 after the Powerplay overs when Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar wreaked havoc but the latter said he was fine to not bowl his fourth over on the trot as it was hot and he was tired.
“No, I wasn’t saying that because it was very hot and I was tired. So I was happy with the three overs and no, didn’t want to push myself, you know, considering my age,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said during the innings break.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday.
