Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary slammed Team India for making changes in the second ODI against Afghanistan. The home team made three changes to their playing XI, dropping Harsh Dubey, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna.
In place of the trio, India added Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prince Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav. Gill confirmed at the toss that Reddy was having some issues with his quad and was not fit for selection.
Meanwhile, India decided to open the innings with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Gill pushing himself to one drop. However, the move didn’t pay off as Jaiswal was dismissed cheaply after scoring four runs by Saleem Safi.
Tiwary said it would create unnecessary confusion if Gill will succeed while batting at one down. Gill is currently batting unbeaten on 43.
“It will just create a headache for the future, and nothing else, if they open with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, and demote Shubman Gill. Now, if he scores runs there, he will be thinking, should I go back to the top or not. So, I have no idea what they are trying to do at all. I see a massive lack of clarity here, but it feels good to see Jaiswal play, because he deserves to play all formats,” Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
Tiwary added if Rohit Sharma fails to fire, it will create pressure on him. Rohit was dismissed by Rashid Khan after scoring 48 runs.
“If Rohit Sharma somehow does not fire today, then there will be a lot of mental pressure from the outside,” he added.
Meanwhile, India won the opening ODI by seven wickets at Dharamshala and they are looking all set to post a big total on the board in the second game.
