Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary showered praise on Rohit Sharma after Mumbai Indians registered a six-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday. Rohit, who made a comeback into the team after recovering from a hamstring injury, scored a fine knock of 84 runs off 44 balls with the help of six fours and seven sixes.
Rohit added 143 runs runs off 65 balls with his opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, who scored a quickfire knock of 83 runs off 32 balls. Thus, MI were able to chase down their highest total (229) in the IPL history and it is also the highest successful chase at the Wankhede Stadium,
Tiwary said it did not seem like that Rohit was playing a match after a long time.
“He was playing in a free-flowing manner, it did not seem that he was playing a match after a long time. Whenever we used to see an opposition batter playing well, we used to say that he has come after practicing in the dressing room, and Rohit Sharma has played an innings just like that,” Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
“All of the fans who were watching this must be thinking, where was this Mumbai Indians? This shows the value of Rohit Sharma in the side. He was not playing the last few matches, and everyone was feeling his absence, right? You saw the difference of Rohit Sharma being there and not being there today,” he added.
On the other hand, former Indian batter Rohan Gavaskar said it is always a treat to the eyes when Rohit Sharma bats in full flow.
“It is a god-given talent. He has a split-second extra, it looks like he plays it so comfortably. No matter how fast you bowl, there is no problem at all. The heart becomes happy when you see Rohit Sharma play in full flow, just because of the ease with which he plays,” Rohan Gavaskar said.
Mumbai Indians will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Raipur on Sunday.
