Former Indian skipper Kris Srikkanth wants Chennai Super Kings to back Dewald Brevis at number four ahead of Kartik Sharma. Recently, the uncapped Indian batter has been backed by the five-time champions to bat at number four and he has done a decent job for the franchise.
However, Kartik played a run-a-ball 20 against Lucknow Super Giants in the previous match. Srikkanth said Sharma could be exposed on a pitch, which would provide assistance to fast bowling in Lucknow.
At the same time, it is worth mentioning that Dewald Brevis hasn’t been in the best of forms. The South African has scored 74 runs in five innings of the ongoing season.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “I will send Brevis at No.4 ahead of Kartik Sharma. It’ll be a pacy wicket, so Kartik Sharma has no chance to succeed on such surfaces. Kartik Sharma should not bat at No.4, especially for this match and surface. Brevis is the ideal candidate to bat there. Shivam Dube should bat whenever Shahbaz Ahmed bowls.”
The 1983 World Cup winning player backed Spencer Johnson to play in place of injured Jamie Overton.
“Spencer Johnson now has to play in the 11 for Overton. They will need a pacer for the match in Lucknow. If not, they can go with Gurjapneet Singh instead of Johnson. The first choice should be Johnson, though.”
The former Indian opener said LSG would want to bat first against CSK.
“They’ll ideally want to bat first. Marsh has not done well for them in run-chases. The same goes for Inglis, too, historically. Both of them are best when they bat first,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
Srikkanth urged LSG to play M Siddharth in place of Digvesh Singh Rathi.
“Their fifth bowler remains an issue. CSK will hammer Digvesh Rathi if he bowls. They can play M Siddharth instead, as he is a better bowler.”
CSK recently registered a five-wicket win against LSG.
