England’s wicket-keeper bat Jos Buttler has praised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his brilliant knock in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A. Sooryavanshi was involved in an altercation with Sri Lankan A player Vishen Halambage and was fined 50% of his match fee. Furthermore, he was handed two demerit points.
The prodigy batter had come under scrutiny after he had shoved away the Sri Lankan player following India A’s loss in the Super Over clash.
However, Sooryavanshi bounced back strongly despite the controversy as he smashed a magnum opus knock of 94 runs off just 29 balls. He scored the fastest List A half-century, taking just 11 deliveries to get to the personal milestone.
The left-hander hit 10 fours and eight sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game. The youngster scored his runs at a whirlwind strike rate of 324.14 and played a key role in helping India post an above-par score of 377 runs on the board.
“He was involved in a heated post-match clash after India A’s Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A. The 15-year-old exchanged a few words and briefly shoved a Sri Lankan player following reported sledging during the match. So the cricket authority stepped in quickly with warnings and disciplinary reviews following the incident, but he has instantly redeemed himself in the next game.”
“In the next game, he hit an 11-ball 50 for India A, the fastest half-century in the history of List A 50-over cricket. So he’s at it again. It’s something we’ve never seen before, and he’s worrying how many records and things he keeps ticking off so quickly,” Buttler said in the “For the Love of Cricket” podcast.
Buttler is hopeful of seeing Sooryavanshi in action in the first T20I against England.
“The cricket’s too easy. I’ll get a few push and shoves in there as well,” he added.
“I’m sure you’re probably not hoping, but I’m doing the first T20 up in Durham against India. What’s that? July the 1st, Wednesday, July 1st. I just hope he plays. I really, I’ve got to be honest, I think I might be starstruck by him,” he said.
India will take on Ireland in the first T20I at Belfast on Friday.
