Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Indian Record for Most Five-Wicket Hauls in England

Jasprit Bumrah etched his name into the history books on Sunday, becoming the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in Test matches played in England. His latest feat came during the opening match of the five-Test series at Headingley, where the pacer dismantled England’s lower order to secure his third five-wicket haul on English soil.

Bumrah reached the milestone in style, clean-bowling tail-ender Josh Tongue to complete the fifer. This performance nudged him past an elite group of Indian cricketing legends, including Lala Amarnath, Kapil Dev, B Chandrasekhar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Vinoo Mankad, Chetan Sharma, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Nissar, and Surendranath, all of whom had previously taken two five-wicket hauls each in England.

This record-breaking display wasn’t just another feather in Bumrah’s cap; it also marked his 12th five-wicket haul away from home, drawing him level with the iconic Kapil Dev for the most such hauls by an Indian bowler in overseas Tests. The achievement shows Bumrah’s growing legacy as one of India’s finest fast bowlers, particularly in foreign conditions.

Known for his unique action and lethal accuracy, Bumrah has consistently delivered match-defining spells outside India. His ability to adapt to varying conditions and dismantle batting line-ups has been a key asset for the Indian team, especially in countries like England, Australia, and South Africa, where pace bowlers often play a decisive role.

Bumrah’s record-setting effort also came at a crucial juncture in the match, helping India gain the upper hand in the series opener. His relentless aggression and control were on full display, leaving the English batters searching for answers.

With the series just getting underway, Indian fans and cricket pundits will be closely watching to see if Bumrah can extend his tally even further. As India continues its campaign in England, the ace pacer’s form could well be the difference-maker in the five-match battle.

In a sport where history is often rewritten in dramatic bursts, Jasprit Bumrah’s Sunday spell at Leeds will be remembered as a moment of personal triumph and national pride.
