There are minor concerns around death bowling, but if Bumrah, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, and Deepak Chahar can collectively manage the closing overs effectively, Mumbai will be hard to stop. With depth, experience, and match-winners across departments, MI look every bit like a title-contending side.
Punjab Kings might just be the team that benefits the most from long-term planning and continuity. After finishing as runners-up in 2025 under Shreyas Iyer, they enter this season with confidence, clarity, and a well-defined core.
This is a franchise that has shown faith in its young Indian talent – Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and Nehal Wadhera among them – and that trust is beginning to pay dividends. Their recruitment has also been smart, with Australian allrounder Cooper Connolly adding further balance to an already strong line-up.
On paper, Punjab’s batting unit looks deep and dynamic, featuring the likes of Iyer, Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Owen, and Shashank Singh. Their bowling, too, is impressive. Arshdeep Singh leads the attack, supported by Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harpreet Brar, with additional firepower from Stoinis and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Man for man, this looks like one of the most complete squads in the tournament—and a serious playoff contender.
For the first time in their history, Royal Challengers Bengaluru enter a season as defending champions. Repeating their 2025 heroics will not be easy, but the squad has enough quality to mount another strong campaign.

Sunrisers Hyderabad may not be the most obvious pick, but they are my dark horse for IPL 2026. After an inconsistent 2025 season, expectations are tempered—but that might work in their favour.
SRH boast what could be the most explosive batting lineup in the tournament. With Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Reddy already in the mix, the addition of Liam Livingstone only amplifies their firepower. Aniket Verma, a breakout performer last season, adds further depth.
The big question is their approach. Will SRH continue with their ultra-aggressive style, even if it leads to collapses? And can their bowling unit hold up under pressure, especially with Pat Cummins expected to miss the initial games?
These concerns are valid. But T20 cricket often rewards fearless teams—and SRH certainly fit that bill. If things click, they could surprise many and sneak into the playoffs.
