Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill rued missed opportunities in the field after an 11-run loss against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday. PBKS posted a par score of 243 runs on the board whereas the home team managed 232 runs while chasing the target.
Gill reckons a slow start when they could only manage 17 runs in the first three overs and then only 18 runs from overs 15 to 17, led to their downfall.
Vijaykumar Vyshak was able to nail his yorkers against Sherfane Rutherford and conceded only 10 runs in the two overs he bowled in the fag end of the innings whereas Marco Jansen conceded only eight runs in the 16th over.
On the other hand, Gill reckons they conceded too many runs while bowling. GT conceded 87 runs in the last five overs as their bowlers were not up to the mark in their execution against Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh.
Shubman Gill said after the loss, “I think we got our chances when we were bowling and batting. Too many runs were given away. We let ourselves down on the field as well. Those three overs in the middle when we scored 18 runs, that and the first three overs we didn’t score too many runs. That costed us the game. Many positives as well. Good start to the tournament I guess.”
Speaking on Vyshak, Gill added, “Never easy for someone to come in as an Impact player and bowl those yorkers when you have been on the bench for 15 overs. Credit to them for bowling yorkers on the trot. I mean it is always a good batting wicket here to bat on. You might score 240-250, but you have to restrict the opposition as well.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Saturday.
