Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar has revealed he doesn’t go searching for wickets but his aim is to bowl the maximum number of dot balls to create pressure on the opposition’s batters. Brar played an instrumental role in his team’s seven-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
The left-arm orthodox spinner returned with impressive figures of 2-17 in his quota of four overs and played a key in restricting the opposition to 162-7 after Sam Curran decided to bowl first.
Brar got the crucial wickets of a well-settled Ajinkya Rahane and in-form Shivam Dube to put PBKS in front after CSK added 55 runs in the Powerplay overs. Brar has an economy rate of 7.21 in the ongoing IPL 2024, which is the fourth-best for a bowler who has bowled at least 20 overs in the tournament. The Punjab spinner has scalped six wickets in 10 matches.
Brar was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance. The 28-year-old said he is making the most of his experience and he doesn’t feel nervous while bowling to the big names in the game.
Brar said in the post-match presentation, “It was a good wicket to bowl on, and even Rahul bowled really well. I have been playing since 6 years, so my confidence has been pretty high. Now bowling to these legends of the game feels normal, I just bowl to my strengths.”
Brar added, “To be honest, I don’t think wickets, my aim is only to bowl lots of dot balls and dot balls create the wickets. When there is spin in the wicket, the bowlers confidence goes up and it is a bit helpful.”
Punjab Kings will once again take on Chennai Super Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Sunday.
