Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad believes Gujarat Titans would have won against Punjab Kings if Shubman Gill had faced 60 balls. GT suffered a three-wicket loss as they could not defend 199 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The GT skipper scored a fine knock of 89 runs off just 48 balls with the help of six fours and four maximums. Gill completed his fifty off 31 balls and played a key role in helping GT get close to the 200-run mark. However, Gill could not even face half of 20 overs despite opening the innings for his team.
Broad reckons it could have been a different story if Gill had faced 12 more deliveries as he was the settled batter.
“He played some beautiful shots as well, particularly a six off Rabada where he hit it dead straight. Just a classical beautiful cricket shot. But I just I think they would have won the game, actually, if Shubman Gill had faced 60 balls, you see there he faced 48 getting 89. He just got a bit starved of the strike in the power play and then starved of the strike in the last couple of overs,” Stuart Broad said about Shubman Gill while speaking on Star Sports.
Broad lauded Gill for leading from the front and playing a key role in helping his team post 199 runs on the board.
“But he’s a high-quality player and, you know, for someone taking on such responsibility, captaining a franchise at his age to be able to go up, I think that means will mean a huge amount to him,” Stuart Broad further added.
“Actually, although he didn’t get 100 to have to go and lead from the front and and set a good total, it was a good total. It didn’t end up being a match winning total. But it was, you know, any time he set 200 in a T20 game, you know, you’ve put it well,” concluded the former cricketer.
The previous season’s runners-up will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Sunday.
