Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has predicted that India won’t be able to qualify for the T20 World Cup final. Earlier, Amir predicted that the West Indies would win against India but prediction did not come true as the latter registered a five-wicket win at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
Amir, the former left-arm seamer, said India has not come up with a complete performance thus far in the ongoing T20I showpiece. Against the West Indies, Sanju Samson scored a blistering knock of 97 runs off just 50 balls to help his team chase down 196.
Speaking after India’s qualification, Amir said on Geo News’ programme “Harna Mana Hai”: “India complete cricket nahi khel rha. India final nahi kehelega [India are not playing complete cricket. India will not play the final.”
He did acknowledge Samson’s brilliance but insisted issues remain. “My semifinal analysis was correct, but Sanju Samson played really good cricket. Still, I feel India is not playing complete cricket yet, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, not a single bowler is in form. Just look at their batting, in almost every match, they keep suffering collapses. The semifinal against England will be a good contest, but I am sure India will not play the final.“
India hasn’t been able to tick all the right boxes and there is no doubt that they would need to bring their A-game against England. Earlier in the Super 8 stage, India suffered a 76-run loss against South Africa at Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, England suffered a 30-run loss against the West Indies in the group stage. Barring these two games, both of the sides have won all of their remaining matches in the tournament.
India will take on England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday.
