Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was happy with the way Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower and Director of Cricket Operations Mo Bobat explained to him the decision of not retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Maxwell said there was clear communication between him and the management and he understood their thinking going forward into the auction. The all-rounder can still be retained by RCB through Right to Match.
Meanwhile, Maxwell didn’t have a great run for RCB in IPL 2024 as he managed only 52 runs in 10 matches of the season at an average of 5.78.
“Completely understand what they the direction they’re heading in. They went, with three unions to build that core. And, yeah, hopefully their overseas can complement, those locals. Yeah, I wouldn’t say my RCB journey’s over, but, yeah, I’d certainly love to get back there. It was a great franchise to play for and really enjoyed my time there,” Maxwell said on ESPNcricinfo’s Around the Wicket.
Maxwell said it was a beautiful exit meeting with Andy Flower and Mo Bobat as they let him know about their plans.
“I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. I sat there on a zoom call, and they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. And, it was actually a really beautiful exit meeting, if that if that could be possible. We ended up talking about the game for about half an hour and talking about their strategy and what they were looking to get to do, going forward. So, I was really happy with that,” Maxwell said in the same interaction.
Maxwell has scored 2771 runs in 134 IPL matches at an average of 24.74 and he has also scalped 37 wickets in the tournament.
IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
