Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour has opined that the slow ball is not a weakness for Vaibhav Suryavanshi amid the ongoing IPL 2026. The young left-hander scored 46 runs off just 21 balls against Delhi Capitals at Delhi on Sunday but RR suffered a five-wicket loss, which dented their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs.
The youngster has scored 481 runs in 12 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 43.73 and a blistering strike rate of 239.30. Suryavanshi has been performing consistently in the IPL and had a breakthrough season in IPL 2025.
Suryavanshi scored 252 runs in seven matches of IPL 2025 for Rajasthan Royals at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55 and thus hogged all the limelight.
Meanwhile, the opposition bowlers are targeting the prodigy batter with short and slower balls but Rathour said it is not concern for the youngster. Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed by Madhav Tiwari on a short delivery on Sunday though.
“Nobody is perfect. Everybody will have some weakness here and there. I don’t think slow ball is a weakness for him. I want bowlers to try that. On a wicket like this, where the ball is gripping a bit, a change of pace is good against anybody. It’s not only Vaibhav, who is a special player. Enough has been said about his ability and how good he is,” Rathour said in the post-match press conference.
“He provided us with a really good start. I just hope he converts one inning and goes deeper. The way he is batting and the way he prepares, I am sure that’s not too far off. We will see one of those innings which he will really convert and play a big knock. Otherwise, we are pretty happy with the way he is batting. We want him to bat that way.”
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Tuesday.
