Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg says they want to give a great send-off to Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma in AUS vs IND 2025 ODI series

    June 11, 2025

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said they want to give a great send-off to the Indian veteran duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in ODI series in Australia, which would be played later in the year. Kohli and Rohit recently retired from the Test format after they could not deliver consistently in the red-ball version.

The duo played their respective last Test matches in Australia on the 2024-25 tour. While Kohli scored 190 runs in five Test matches at an average of 23.75, Rohit could only manage 31 runs in three games at an average of 6.20.

Earlier, Kohli and Rohit had announced their T20I retirement after leading India to glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies. Ergo, the pair would be seen playing only in the ODI format for India.

Greenberg said via TOI, “This might be a summer like we’ve never seen before, just in terms of the amount of content. And if you think about the quality of the players coming, particularly from India — this might be the last time we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. If that’s the case — who knows, it might not be — but if it is, we want to make sure we give them a great send-off and acknowledge the incredible contribution they’ve made to international cricket.”

“I think we saw real momentum last year on the back of the BGT series — you know, some record-breaking ticket sales. And I anticipate that we’ll see a number of sellouts across the summer, really starting in August and going through until March.”

India would play three ODIs in Australia at Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney from October 19 to 25. The visitors would also play five T20Is on the Australian tour after the conclusion of three-match ODI series.
