Abhishek Sharma produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad to a massive 47-run victory over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday.
The left-hander remained unbeaten on 135 off just 68 balls, hammering 10 fours and 10 sixes in a knock that defined the contest. Staying true to his aggressive T20 approach, Abhishek treated the bowlers with little respect, sending the white ball soaring into the stands repeatedly to propel Hyderabad to a daunting 242 for two.
He found strong support from Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, ensuring there was no let-up in scoring. After Head’s brief stay ended in the ninth over, Abhishek stitched together a rapid 79-run partnership off just 35 deliveries with Kishan, keeping the pressure firmly on Delhi. Klaasen then added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 37 from only 13 balls, further energising the home crowd.
Delhi Capitals’ bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught. Their plan to counter Abhishek with off-spin through Nitish Rana initially showed promise, but quickly unraveled. Rana ended with expensive figures and even dropped Abhishek on 86, a moment that proved costly.
In reply, Delhi Capitals never truly threatened the target, finishing on 195 for nine. Rana tried to anchor the chase with a half-century and shared an 86-run stand with K. L. Rahul, but the partnership lacked the urgency required for such a steep chase.
A brief shift in momentum came when Rana struck two sixes in an over, but Hyderabad quickly regained control. Sakib Hussain removed Rahul, and Eshan Malinga delivered a decisive blow by dismissing both Rana and David Miller in quick succession.
Malinga starred with the ball, finishing with four wickets, while Harsh Dubey chipped in with three scalps to dismantle Delhi’s batting lineup.
Ultimately, the match belonged to Abhishek, whose return to form after a lean patch came in emphatic fashion. His innings not only set up a commanding win but also reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most explosive batters in the shortest format.
