Rafael Nadal reveals whether he will take up coaching like Andy Murray did with Novak Djokovic

    April 30, 2025

Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he has no plans to take up a coaching role like Andy Murray did with Novak Djokovic. The Brit stunned one and all when he joined Djokovic as the chief coach at the end of 2024 season, soon after retiring from his career.

Meanwhile, Nadal also called time on his glorious career but said he has no plans to coach any player and travel with him on the tour. Nadal is running his own academy in Mallorca, where aspiring tennis players have the best facilities to both study and play the game.

Since his retirement, Nadal has been spending quality time with his family and friends.

Nadal said in an interview with CNN, “I mean in this life you can never say never, It’s difficult to imagine myself now doing this kind of thing … it’s not my moment, at all. I am in a different moment of my life and I don’t see myself traveling now with a player.”

In another interview, the Spaniard had shared his surprise that Murray decided to join Djokovic’s team soon after his retirement.

“It surprised me a bit that, immediately after retiring, Andy wanted to start a project again where he’d be travelling,” Rafael Nadal told the Telegraph. “But I understand that the project to be with Novak is an attractive one, and one he would be passionate about. Also, I understand for Novak to be with one of his rivals – one of his biggest rivals – as his coach must give him a motivation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nadal recently received a Laureus Sporting Icon award and he is all set to be honored on the opening day of the Roland Garros, which would begin on 25th May.
