Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime to win his maiden Rolex Paris Masters on Sunday. This is Italian’s fifth ATP 1000 Masters title, which has helped him reclaim the number one position in the PIF ATP rankings, taking his spot back from Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner had lost the top position after losing to the Spaniard in the US Open final. After that, Sinner went on to win the Vienna Open and now the French ATP 1000 Masters event, which has helped him gain points.
The 24-year-old registered a 6-4, 7-6(4) win against the Canadian in the final to go all the way in the tournament.
With this win, Sinner extended his indoor winning streak to 26 matches.
“It’s huge, honestly, it was such an intense final, and we both knew what was on the line,” Sinner said after his one-hour, 52-minute win. “I’m extremely happy, the past couple of months have been amazing. We try to work on things and seeing this result makes me incredibly happy. Another title this year… It’s been an amazing year regardless of what comes in Turin.”
Sinner admitted it was a challenging match as Felix was serving really well and he had to raise his game.
“It was a very difficult match, he was serving incredibly well, especially from the first break on,” Sinner said of Auger-Aliassime “I didn’t have many chances… You have to use the small chances you have, and in the breaker it was just a small mini break, so I’m very happy with how I played there.”
Sinner now has a 3-2 record against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner will next head to Turin to compete at the Nitto ATP Finals, which would begin on November 9.
