Former French Open champion Yannick Noah believes Novak Djokovic can still go on to win his much-awaited 25th Grand Slam. The Serbian hasn’t been able to win a Major in the last two years as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have dominated on the tour.
Djokovic had to pull out of the Australian Open 2025 semifinal against Alexander Zverev after he suffered a hamstring injury. The 24-time Slam champion then suffered a semifinal loss against Jannik Sinner at the Roland Garros and also could not go past the Italian in the semis of the Wimbledon.
In the US Open semifinal, Djokovic suffered a straight set loss against eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. There is no doubt Djokovic is currently the third best player on the tour but he would need to find a way to go past Sinner and Alcaraz.
“Against Alcaraz at the US Open, he played a good match, despite the three-set defeat. It came down to seven or eight points, but Alcaraz won them. You can blame that on youth, but I haven’t forgotten that for Nadal, we always said at the beginning of the season before he won his last Grand Slams: it’s over,” Noah said in an interview with RMC.
“As long as Novak plays, he’s always dangerous. In a tournament, you never know what can happen. Sinner was completely dominated by Dimitrov before he retired at Wimbledon. You can never plan ahead. As long as he’s in the top three or four, he can always win one.”
On the other hand, former World No.1 Boris Becker recently said on his podcast that Djokovic might not win another Slam in his career.
“I think, now he’s admitted that he can’t realistically win a Grand Slam because of his age and the strength of the youngsters [Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner].”
Djokovic will look to bounce back stronger on the tour.
