Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg to win the UEFA Super Cup for the second year in a row.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead before 17-year-old Brian Madjo equalised for Villa. Désiré Doué then scored the winning goal in the second half.

PSG went ahead in the 20th minute when Kvaratskhelia dribbled past Matty Cash and fired the ball beyond Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot.

Villa responded strongly, with Madjo causing several problems for the PSG defence on his debut. The young striker missed two headers and also hit the post before eventually finding the net.

His goal came just before half-time. Madjo held off defender Willian Pacho and guided John McGinn’s cross into the net from a difficult angle.

At 17, Madjo became the youngest player to score in a UEFA Super Cup match.

Villa carried their momentum into the second half. Madjo created a chance for McGinn, but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov saved his shot.

PSG regained the lead in the 61st minute. Doué collected a pass from Ousmane Dembélé, moved inside and calmly finished past Bizot.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR confirmed that Doué was onside and the decision was overturned.

Villa pushed for another equaliser but could not find a way through PSG’s defence before the final whistle.

The victory made PSG only the third team to win the Super Cup in consecutive years, following AC Milan and Real Madrid.

It was another Super Cup disappointment for Villa manager Unai Emery, who has now lost all four of his appearances in the match.

Despite the defeat, Villa produced a strong performance against the back-to-back Champions League winners. Madjo’s record-breaking goal and impressive debut were major positives for the English club.

The match also made refereeing history, as Somalia’s Omar Artan became the first non-European official to take charge of a UEFA Super Cup fixture.
