Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has cautioned his players not to be complacent after their 2-1 win against table-toppers Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Rayan Cherki scored the opening goal for the hosts as he found the back of the net in the 16th minute.

But, Arsenal’s striker Kai Havertz scored the equaliser for the visitors after two minutes. However, Erling Haaland scored the winning goal for the Cityzens as he scored in the 65th minute.

Despite this loss, Arsenal is still at the top of the standings with 70 points whereas Manchester City has 67 points, but Guardiola’s team has one more game in hand.

“Who is top of the league?” Guardiola said after the match. “We are not. In goal difference, they are better.

“Step by step. But of course, we have hopes and still extend the chance to fight until the end.”

However, City’s midfielder Rodri suffered a hamstring injury and he could be doubtful for the next game against Burnley.

“Some groin,” Guardiola said when asked about Rodri’s injury. “The doctors will make tests later or tomorrow.”

The Spaniard coach said he was proud of the way his team played against the Gunners.

“The best two teams in England, I think it was a good advertisement worldwide,” Guardiola said.

“Both man-marking, attack, quick, a little more process. Nothing to say.

“I would be satisfied with a draw or a defeat. When I see what I see in my team, what can I say? I cannot complain at all, I’m so proud because they are top.”

Manchester City will next take on Burnley on Wednesday.
