Neymar is not giving up on Brazil World Cup squad dream despite being dropped out of March friendlies. Brazil is all set to face France and Croatia in the ongoing month but Neymar found no place in the team.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said the Santos forward is not 100% fit after announcing his latest squad. The former PSG and Barcelona striker has not played for Brazil since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while on international duty.
Neymar then had a minor surgery on his left knee on December 22, 2023.
During a live broadcast of a Kings League Brazil game on Monday evening, Neymar, 34, said: “I’m going to speak out here, because I can’t just let this pass.
“Obviously I’m upset and sad not to have been selected. But the focus remains the same, day after day, training session after training session, match after match.
“We’ll achieve our goal. There’s still one final squad announcement to go and the dream lives on. That’s it, we’re in this together.”
The striker had struggled with injury woes after he tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee and has not played for the national team since 2023. Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances and has played in three World Cups. The striker is currently playing for his boyhood club Santos.
Neymar gave his gratitude to the fans for backing him after the squad was announced by former Real Madrid manager.
“Thank you all for the kind messages today! ” Neymar wrote on Instagram hours after the Brazil squad was announced.
“Trust the process; whatever will be, will be! Work in silence.”
