Bosnia international Samir Zeljković has officially joined Mohun Bagan Super Giant on a two-year contract, strengthening the Kolkata club’s squad ahead of the new season.
The 28-year-old midfielder arrives after an impressive campaign with Punjab FC in the Indian Super League, where his consistent performances attracted attention from one of the country’s most successful clubs. Known primarily as a central defensive midfielder, Zeljković also offers the versatility to operate as a centre-back, a quality that played a major role in Mohun Bagan SG’s decision to secure his services.
Standing six feet tall, the Bosnian brings a blend of defensive solidity and attacking intent. Alongside his ability to break up opposition attacks, he is known for making forward runs and contributing in the final third. Throughout his career in both the Bosnian Premier League and the Uzbek league, he has regularly chipped in with goals and assists.
During the 2025-26 season, Zeljković scored two goals and provided three assists, underlining his value at both ends of the pitch. His all-round game is expected to add depth and flexibility to the Mohun Bagan squad as the club prepares to compete on multiple fronts.
After completing the move, the midfielder expressed his excitement about joining the green-and-maroon outfit and spoke warmly about the atmosphere he experienced while playing against the club.
“Ever since I arrived in India, I have heard about the consistent success of Mohun Bagan SG. While playing against them in the ISL at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, I witnessed the passion and love that the club’s members and supporters have for the team,” Zeljković said.
The Bosnian international also highlighted the significance of representing a club with such a rich history.
“I am thrilled and honoured to get the opportunity to play for such a historic club with more than a century of tradition. The green-and-maroon supporters have already seen me play. Mohun Bagan is the best club in the country, and I promise that I will perform even better alongside my new teammates in this successful team.”
Zeljković made it clear that his ambitions align with the club’s winning culture, setting high targets for his time in Kolkata.
“I am coming to Kolkata with the mentality of becoming a champion. Not only the ISL, I want to win every trophy possible.”
With the signing completed, Mohun Bagan SG have added an experienced and versatile international player who arrives determined to help the club continue its pursuit of silverware.
