Manchester City haven’t been good despite FA Cup final push, says Pep Guardiola

    April 28, 2025

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola admitted that his team haven’t been good in the ongoing season despite making it to the FA Cup final. The Cityzens registered a 2-0 win in the semifinals of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Rico Lewis scored in the second minute to put the Sky Blues in front, whereas Josko Gvardiol then doubled the team’s lead in the 51st minute. Guardiola’s team has set up a final against Crystal Palace next month.

Asked whether finishing in the top five and lifting a trophy will make it a successful season, Guardiola said: “Nooooooo!

“This season has not been good. We are a thousand million points behind Liverpool. It’s not good. Look at the Champions League. We won one game? Two games?

“We were always a machine and we have not been good, but the damage will be minor. It is not going to confuse that the season has been good. The club have to take the right decisions so next season will be better.”

The veteran Spaniard also congratulated Arne Slot’s Liverpool for lifting the Premier League title after the Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur by 5-1.

“Before I start, on behalf of myself and all the club we want to congratulate Liverpool Football Club for their Premier League victory,” said Guardiola.

“Well deserved, no doubts about that. A fantastic team. Hopefully next season we can be better to compete until the end that in this season was not possible. Congratulations to Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, the Sky Blues are currently in fourth place in the standings with 61 points and have only four games remaining.

Manchester City will face Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Friday.
