FC Goa has decided to extend midfielder Princeton Rebello’s contract by two-year, the club announced during the weekend. As part of the two-year deal, Rebello will stay with the Gaurs till the end of the 2024 season.
In the 2020-21 season, Princeton played 17 matches for FC Goa. He also played a key role in taking the Gaurs to their maiden AFC Champions League campaign.
Thus far, the 23-year-old has made 42 appearances for FC Goa in which he has completed 1160 passes and 18 interceptions during his stint with the club.
Speaking to fcgoa.in the 23-year-old said, “This is a huge moment of pride for me and my family. I joined FC Goa five years ago with the goal of getting better each day and eventually playing in the first team one day. That has been my reality for two seasons now but I’m aware that I’ve got lots left to do.
“I’m really looking forward to the coming seasons and working towards making an impact in the side. I hope to stay for a long time to come and achieve lots of success with the Club.”
FC Goa Director of Football Ravi Puskur was delighted to extend Princeton’s contract with the club.
He said after the contract extension, “Princeton has always been earmarked as someone with the potential to make it big not just for the club but also the country. The last two seasons have seen him gain some valuable minutes on the pitch and the intention is to build on that.”
“We’ve identified a clear career path for him and it’s imperative now that he makes the step up and makes himself a player that goes into the reckoning for the national team in the seasons to follow. We have high expectations of him and with the coaching staff on board to help his progression, we hope to see him take that leap to the next level.”
This is FC Goa’s second extension ahead of the next season. Earlier, the Gaurs had extended the contract of Seriton Fernandes.
Meanwhile, FC Goa had a disappointing run in Hero ISL 2021-22 season as they managed only four wins in 20 matches to finish at the ninth place in the standings, and thus they could not qualify for the semifinals.
