CF Montreal is set to sign Chilean football great Alexis Sanchez, adding another high-profile veteran to Major League Soccer.
The 37-year-old attacker will join Montreal after spending the 2025-26 season with Sevilla in Spain’s La Liga. Sanchez made 28 appearances for the Spanish club during the campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
According to The Athletic, Sanchez will occupy a Designated Player spot at CF Montreal. Financial details of the expected deal have not yet been disclosed.
Montreal has stopped short of formally announcing Sanchez, but the club strongly hinted that a deal is imminent through a video posted on social media. The teaser features managing director Luca Saputo speaking on the phone about the shirt intended for the incoming player.
“He wants Alexis, No. 10” on the jersey, Saputo says in the video.
Sanchez arrives with a reputation built during a long career at some of European football’s biggest clubs. He is best known for spells with Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and Inter Milan.
The Chilean also enjoyed major success at club level, winning league championships in two of Europe’s Big Five leagues. He lifted the La Liga title with Barcelona in 2013 before later winning Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021 and again in 2024.
His record with Chile further underlines his status as one of the country’s most celebrated players. Sanchez is Chile’s all-time leading goalscorer with 51 goals and also holds the national record for appearances, having earned 168 caps.
A move to Montreal would place Sanchez among several established international stars who have recently chosen MLS for the later stages of their careers.
This summer transfer window has already seen Polish striker Robert Lewandowski sign for the Chicago Fire, while French forward Antoine Griezmann has joined Orlando City. Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has also moved to Inter Miami, where he joins Lionel Messi and company.
Sanchez’s expected arrival would now give Montreal its own globally recognised veteran as the club strengthens its attack. With the No. 10 shirt apparently waiting for him, only the formal announcement remains before the Chilean begins the latest chapter of his career in MLS.
