Arteta Eyes Record-Breaking Transfer Window as Arsenal Hunt for Firepower

    June 10, 2025

Arsenal are preparing for one of their boldest transfer windows yet—and Mikel Arteta isn’t hiding it. As the Gunners look to build on their recent resurgence, the Spanish manager has openly acknowledged that this summer could see the club push financial limits to bring in the right talent—especially up front.

Speaking recently about the club’s transfer plans, Arteta likened the process to planning a wedding or building a house—no matter how carefully you budget, the costs nearly always exceed expectations. It’s a candid admission from a manager who knows what he wants and understands the cost of staying competitive in modern football.

Arsenal’s summer business is shaping up to revolve around one key mission: adding a top-tier striker. The need is glaring. Despite a promising campaign overall, Arsenal struggled for a consistent threat in front of goal. Kai Havertz ended the league season as their top scorer with just nine goals—a number far below what you’d expect from a side with title ambitions. That stat, as Arteta surely knows, simply won’t cut it next season.

And so, the club is gearing up to go big.

One name continues to circle the Emirates radar: Benjamin Sesko. The 21-year-old RB Leipzig forward enjoyed a solid season in the Bundesliga, notching 13 goals and showcasing the blend of pace, power, and precision that has made him a sought-after talent across Europe. Arsenal, through their new sporting director Andrea Berta, have reportedly opened negotiations with Leipzig, and a £75 million valuation has already surfaced in discussions.

This is not a speculative link. Talks have already begun between Berta and Leipzig representative Marcel Schafer, signaling that the Gunners are serious. While no deal has been finalized, a concrete figure is being floated, and it’s clear Sesko is a priority.

Still, Sesko isn’t the only name under consideration. Arteta and Berta are casting a wider net. Viktor Gyokeres, who exploded onto the scene with Sporting Lisbon last season by racking up 39 goals across competitions, is another candidate. Discussions have reportedly been held with Sporting, but no decisions have been made.

What unites both targets is clear: youth, physicality, and a proven nose for goal. Arteta is looking for a striker who can not only finish chances but also fit into the fluid attacking system Arsenal have built over the last two seasons. In Sesko’s case, his ability to operate both as a traditional No. 9 and a mobile attacker gives him an edge.
