Former Pakistan great Zaheer Abbas has showered praise on gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding performances in the T20 World Cup. Abbas said Bumrah is a combination of Pakistan’s legendary fast bowlers – Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Bumrah returned with impressive figures of 4-15 in his quota of four overs and was awarded Player of the Match after India registered a comprehensive 96-run win over the Kiwis in the final.
The gun fast bowler took 14 wickets in the tournament at an average of 12.43 and a splendid economy rate of 6.21, which was the best for any bowler.
On the other hand, Abbas also praised Sanju Samson for his consistent performances. The right-hander was awarded Player of the tournament after he scored 321 runs in five matches at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.38.
“Sanju Samson played very well at the top. Three scores of 80-plus in three matches is just phenomenal. Then there is Jasprit Bumrah. What do I say about him? He is an exceptional talent. The overall team performance was very, very good. Top class”, Abbas was quoted as saying by Sports Now.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a combination of Waqar and Wasim. There’s no doubt he is one of the best bowlers India has produced. His yorkers, pace, and ability to swing the ball in crucial moments are extraordinary. He has single-handedly won the World Cup for his team with this performance,” he added.
The former Pakistan batter said India played the T20 World Cup 2026 like champions and deserved to win the title.
“India played like champions. They are bound to win this tournament, and they’ve done it three times. Congratulations to them, and they absolutely deserve it,” Abbas said.
Indian players will next participate in the IPL.
