Yashasvi Jaiswal delighted after scoring ‘special’ century against Australia in Perth Test

    November 25, 2024

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was on cloud nine after scoring a magnificent century against Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar series at Perth. After getting dismissed for a blob in his first innings on the Australian soil, Jaiswal made a solid comeback in the second essay.

The left-hander went on to score a magnum opus knock of 161 runs off 297 balls in the second dig to put India in the driver’s seat. Jaiswal reached his century when he guided Josh Hazlewood’s bouncer to six by playing the ramp shot.

Jaiswal became the third Indian batter to score a century in his maiden Test in Australia after Motganhalli Jaisimha and Sunil Gavaskar. The southpaw also added a crucial opening alliance of 201 runs with KL Rahul, which is India’s best opening stand in Australian conditions.

The youngster said he prepared for the bouncy Perth pitch and always wanted to perform well in Australia.

Jaiswal told reporters after day three of the Test match, “For me, all the centuries are amazing, but this will be special because I really wanted to do it. I always wanted to come to Australia and do well here. We all knew that the ball will bounce here, and I prepared for it.”

Jaiswal said he was ready for the bouncer when Josh Hazlewood was bowling against him before the personal milestone.

“I knew he was going to bowl a bouncer, and I was ready for that ball. Luckily, he did, and I played that shot, and I enjoyed it.”

Jaiswal, who had to toil hard to rise through the ranks, said he will continue to bat aggressively in the upcoming matches of the series.

“I am going to go and enjoy and be fearless. I will go and take a brave decision. I will try and do what is required for my team. It is amazing to play against such great bowlers.”

Jaiswal has ticked the right boxes in his young career and he has been a great find for Indian cricket.
