Royal Challengers Bengaluru fast bowler Yash Dayal has given credit to Virat Kohli and the franchise for backing him in the ongoing IPL 2025. On Saturday, Rajat Patidar gave the final over to Dayal when CSK needed 15 runs off the final over at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Dayal was able to nail his yorkers and conceded 12 runs to help his team get over the line in a thrilling finish.
The left-arm pacer was smashed for a six on a waist-high full-toss when 13 runs were required off the final three balls, bringing down the equation to six runs off three balls. However, Dayal was able to nail his yorkers and conceded only four runs on the next three deliveries to help his team register a thrilling two-run win.
Dayal has picked 10 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 34.60 and an economy rate of 9.61 in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Meanwhile, Dayal had faced a lot of backlash after he was hit for 30 runs by Rinku Singh in the final over in IPL 2023 while playing for GT but Virat Kohli has been backing him since then.
“It’s a very big thing, I’ve said it before as well, the things Virat bhaiya explained to me still stay in my mind even now. And the kind of backing I received from the RCB management, the support they gave me, the results are clearly due to that,” Dayal said while speaking at the pre-match press conference.
“So yes, I would say that the turnaround in my career has happened because of that to a large extent,” Dayal added.
The left-arm pacer revealed he tries to control his nerves while bowling in the death overs to get the job done for his team.
“My process is that I try to control my nerves pre-match, and rather than worrying, I try not to think about the things that are not in my control. And the second thing is, after what happened in 2023, I try to pay as much attention to the process as possible and not on the batsman,” Dayal said.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.
