Indian captain Rohit Sharma is hopeful to be fit for the fourth T20I against West Indies, which will be played in Florida on Saturday. Rohit was forced to retire hurt in the third match after just playing five deliveries due to back spasm.
The right-hander was unbeaten on 11 runs and it was an early blow for the tourists. Meanwhile, India went on to win by seven wickets after Suryakumar Yadav scored a fine knock of 76 runs to help his team get over the line in the run-chase of 165 runs.
Meanwhile, Rohit has been in fine form and the visitors will want him to regain his fitness before the fourth game. The Indian captain had scored a superb knock of 64 runs in the first T20I and he is going to hold the key in the rest of the series.
If Rohit fails to recover from the back spasm, then vice-captain Hardik Pandya will lead the team in the remaining two matches. Pandya had recently led the team for the first time in the two-match series against Ireland.
On the other hand, Rohit gave credit to his bowlers for bouncing back in the middle overs as the West Indies had got off to a decent start after they had added 45 runs in the PowerPlay overs. The Indian skipper lauded the performance of Suryakumar Yadav for his match-winning knock.
Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, “It’s okay at the moment. We’ve got a few days till the next game, hopefully it should be okay (his injury). How we bowled in the middle overs was crucial. I thought we used the conditions well. Used the variations well. Was very clinical how we chased. When you watched from the outside, didn’t feel a lot of risk was taken, was a lot of calmness in the middle. Surya batted brilliantly, good partnership there with Iyer. The pitch had something in it for the bowlers, not an easy target. Was important to pick the right shots, right balls on a ground like that.”
India will be delighted with their performance in the third T20I as they were able to come up with a collective effort.
The Indian bowlers were able to keep the opposition at bay and Suryakumar Yadav played at the top of his game.
The fourth T20I will be played in Florida on Saturday.
