We can score anything if we get going, says Travis Head ahead of T20I series against India

Australian opener Travis Head said they can score anything if they can get going in the T20I series against India. The visitors have been playing with an aggressive approach in the shortest format, but Head said they can fight fire with fire in T20Is.

Australia won the ODI series against India by 2-1 after winning the first two matches. The young and inexperienced batting line-up had delivered the goods in the 50-overs format, and they would want to carry the same form.

The likes of Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis will add more firepower to Australia’s batting line-up and Australia would look to make the most of their home conditions.

Head said while talking to cricket.com.au, “When you’ve got the power that we’ve got behind us, we’ve got to get a move on. You don’t want to be chewing up balls up at the start when you’ve got (Tim) David, (Marcus) Stoinis, (Josh) Inglis, (Cameron) Green and (Glenn) Maxwell behind you. It’s huge power.”

“We can score anything if we can get going. So, for Mitch (Marsh) and I (the plan is to) try and go out there and take advantage of it (Powerplay fielding restrictions). It’s been a strength of ours for a couple of years, that if you look at both one-day cricket and T20 cricket we’ve put a big emphasis on the Powerplay. We try not to be reckless, but at some stage it will look like that… but yeah, the plan is to try and get as many as possible.”

On the other hand, Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, said they want to test their batting style in the T20I series against India.

The first T20I between India and Australia will be played at Canberra on Wednesday.
