Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer has backed India to win the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Jaffer predicted that India will win the Test series by 2-0 against the Island nation. 

Meanwhile, India last toured Sri Lanka in 2017 and registered a 3-0 series win against the hosts under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. 

India has been struggling a bit in the red-ball version and they would look to be at their best against Sri Lanka. Team India lost at home against New Zealand in 2024 and then suffered a 1-3 series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series.

India also suffered a Test series loss against South Africa despite playing in their own conditions.

Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel, “I would say India should win the series 2-0. If you look at both teams on paper, the Indian side is much stronger. So, if India don’t win the series 2-0, it would be a disappointing outcome. Sri Lanka is a very good team, there’s no doubt about that. But on paper, I feel we are much stronger.”

On the other hand, Jaffer backed Sai Sudharsan to keep batting at number three position in the Test format. Sudharsan has done a decent job while batting at one drop.

“As far as Sai is concerned, all the selectors and even the captain have said that they want to give him a long rope. He also performed well in the recent series, so I believe he deserves that opportunity. He’s a good player, a solid player, and he’s only going to improve. He’s the kind of character who will just keep getting better. I think the No. 3 position suits him well. Shubman is batting at No. 4 and has been batting really well, so I don’t see the top four positions changing anytime soon.”

The first Test between Sri Lanka and India will be played at Galle from August 15 onwards.
