Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag questioned Kolkata Knight Riders’ think tank for not changing their batting order against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi in IPL 2025 on Sunday after they suffered a huge loss of 110 runs.
SRH posted a gargantuan score of 278 runs after Heinrich Klaasen, scored the third joint fastest hundred in IPL history, off just 37 balls. However, KKR was skittled out for 168 runs in the run-chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Sehwag noted that teams like Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings made changes to their batting order in their respective last matches and gave opportunities to in-form players but KKR didn’t do that.
“It is not written anywhere that a captain has to bat in the top three. Look at Pant, he was sending players ahead of him, because they were in form, and LSG took advantage of that. KKR could have done the same. This was the team management and the coaching staff’s responsibility,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“See, even CSK did it against GT. Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis came up the order, they changed that up from the recent matches. Urvil Patel has also come in, he playing at No.3, so they have tried out such changes,” he added.
Meanwhile, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane admitted they had their moments throughout the season but they failed to grab them, which led to their downfall.
“Throughout the season, we had our moments, two or three close games which we didn’t win. We had our chances, we tried our best, we got to be switched on a tournament like IPL,” Rahane said during the post-match presentation after the loss to SRH.
KKR ended their IPL 2025 season with five wins, seven losses and two no-results.
