Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag defended the high-scoring matches of IPL 2026 on Saturday. Punjab Kings successfully chase down the gargantuan total of 265 against Delhi Capitals to continue their unbeaten run in the ongoing season with six wickets to spare.
This is the record run chase in the history of the IPL and the T20s as well. KL Rahul scored a stunning knock of 152 runs off just 67 balls but his efforts went in vain as PBKS chased down the score with ease in the end after Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer scored fine fifties.
On the other hand, SRH were able to chase 229 runs against Rajasthan Royals as they registered a five-wicket win and won with nine balls to spare. Ishan Kishan scored a match-winning knock of 74 runs off 31 balls after Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s blistering century.
“I don’t feel bad at all, there should be fun in the match. It would have been even more fun if it had gone to the last ball. How many yorkers were bowled today? If the batters are evolving and playing different types of shots, the bowlers will also find their perfect yorker, and we are not getting to see that,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan said the psychological barrier doesn’t exist in the batters’ mind as they have adopted a fearless approach.
“The most important part is that the psychological barrier does not exist now, because they know that these many runs are scored now these days. We have seen that the bowlers do not have many options to control the game on a good wicket. So, it is important not to relax when you are in a good position in the game,” Zaheer Khan opined.
