It has been reported that India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli has been ruled out of Afghanistan ODIs due to a hamstring injury. Kohli was seen batting with pain in the IPL final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Despite the injury, Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 42 balls against GT and was awarded Player of the Match. Kohli scored a total of 675 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 56.25 and a strike rate of 165.84, playing a key role in taking RCB to back-to-back titles. Thus, Kohli has been in sublime form and his absence will be a huge blow for the Men in Blue.
A BCCI source told PTI, “He is out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury.”
After the IPL final, Kohli paid a visit to Premanand Ji Maharaj in Vrindivan along with his wife, Anushka Sharma. The couple returned to Mumbai and then flew back to London.
Earlier, the trio of Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey were given maiden ODI call-ups by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel.
India will play one-off Test match against Afghanistan and would play three ODIs against the visitors. The first ODI will be played at Dharamshala on June 13 whereas the second and third ODIs will be hosted by Lucknow and Chennai on June 17 and 20 respectively.
